Regarding the redline MTL or their other similar products, here is what the senior BMW tech told me: (BTW his name is Mike, owner of Bavarian Machine Specialties in Houston.) They would not risk putting something bad in a part that is vital to the car's basic operation. D4 ATF is probably added to the mix to lube and loose things up a little bit because too thick an oil can make the shifting difficult especially in cold temps.įor normal cars without flywheel/tranny modifications, the factory MTF is a perfect fluid to use. It offers the essential protection for tranny and reduces the chatters normally caused by a light weight flywheel setup. Trust me they will NOT tell you it's D4 ATF, well unless that person lost his mind.ħ5W-140NS is a thick gear oil. If you ask Redline which of their fluid is for e46 manual, they will tell you MTL or equivalent. There's a reason you don't see any reputable tuner that lists D4 ATF as the tranny fluid for e46 manuals. 1 bottle Redline 75W-140NS and 1 bottle Redline D4 ATF is very different from pure D4 ATF.
